Rain is a big deal around here.
But not for the reasons that one might assume.
Not because it's Arizona, which as all of you know, is a big fat desert. Not because of the amazing smell of rain. Or the fresh look the sky brings the morning after. Not even because of the little puddles in the yard that the girls jump in and out of.
It's the big puddles.
And it's not the girls who enjoy them so.
It's the dad.
He is like a little boy at the sign of rain.
So needless to say, this was bound to happen eventually.
Wednesday evening we were settling in to watch a movie when we realized we had no milk for breakfast in the morning. Being so wonderful, Nick offered to go. As I showered 45 minutes after he had left, I started wondering what store he could have possibly gone to.....they are all within 5 minutes from our house.
That's when my phone rang.
The call of the rain hadn't gone unnoticed. The nearby "Turtle" mountain was just to inviting to pass by.
He figured he had time.
He figured he could drive through a few puddles in the storm and get his "fix" until the weekend when the puddles were ready and willing to be splashed in.
He figured that since he had gone through so many tonight, that just one more wouldn't hurt.
He figured wrong.
I got a call my impatient boyfriend was "That Guy".
You know the one.
See's the huge lake in the road/off the road/wherever there is water that can be driven into and thinks to himself, "Self, I think we can take this one. It's not that big/deep."
Cut to : the evening news where you see him standing on top of his vehicle while the fire department sends a rescue team out to save him.
Embarrassing.
Luckily for us his rescue team consisted of his amazing mother who picked him up in the desert at 10:30 on a work night, and his best buddy C.J. who happen to notice a truck that looked strikingly similar to Nick's while out 4-wheeling the next morning.....
I am glad it all worked out.
But mostly I am glad he didn't make it onto the evening news.

Funny. I guess you did get some rain out there. Rain is indeed the bestest! It's the snow I hate.
